Point of Sale (POS)
Accept in-person payments for walk-in clients and retail sales
Overview
The POS lets you create and close orders for walk-in clients directly from the console. Access it via POS in the sidebar.
Taking a Payment
If you have more than one location, pick the till's location from the selector at the top of the POS. The order, its products, and the cash drawer all belong to that location. Single-location salons skip this; the one location is used automatically.
- Add services or products to the order
- Select a client (or check out as a guest)
- Choose a payment method and collect payment
Payment Methods
Configure which methods are available under Settings → Billing → Client payments → In-Person Payments:
- Cash - Record physical cash. No Stripe required.
- Stripe Terminal - Charge a card using a connected reader. Funds deposit automatically to your bank. Requires Stripe Connect and a configured Terminal reader.
- External POS - Process payment on your own card terminal (Square, SumUp, iZettle, etc.), then mark it as paid here. Studioloop records it for bookkeeping and reports. Label is customisable under Client payments.
Stripe Terminal in POS
When Stripe Terminal is selected, the POS discovers internet-connected readers registered to that location. If the location has a default reader, Studioloop connects to it automatically. Otherwise, select a reader and the client taps or inserts their card on the device to pay.
Readers must be:
- Online (shown as green in Settings → Billing → Terminals → Terminal Readers)
- Registered to the same location as the POS session
- Marked as the default reader for that location if you want faster checkout
Cash Drawer
If you take cash, open the drawer at the start of a shift and close it at the end so the cash you hold reconciles against the cash you took.
- Open the drawer: enter the starting float (the cash you put in to make change). The drawer's status shows at the top of the POS while it's open.
- Close the drawer: count what's actually in it. Studioloop compares your count against the expected amount (starting float plus cash sales, minus any cash paid out) and flags whether the drawer is balanced, over (extra cash), or short (missing cash). If it's off, review the session's transactions before closing.
The drawer is per location, so each till reconciles on its own.
